About the Club

All of the 10 Latin and Ballroom Dances are taught as well as a few others such as Rock & Roll and Offbeat. Throughout the year there are group lessons of many levels, private lessons with our teachers, competitions to take part in you want, medal tests to put your level on paper and of course the fantastic social side! On top of the fact that 99% of people who join our club have never done any Ballroom or Latin dancing before, about 70% have never done any sort of dancing whatsoever.

Our club is very social and on top of the fun and enjoyable lessons, we also have two Social Secretaries who arrange various activities from pub crawls and club nights to 10 pin bowling and cinema trips. Twice a year we have a Ball, the Christmas Ball and the May Ball, which are truly unique and magical events - often consisting of a demonstration from professional Latin and Ballroom Dancers!

At the end of each academic year you can gain recognition of your new found skills by taking medal tests to prove how good you are. These are a little practical tests where you dance a set order of moves as well as you can to obtain your medal.

Another activity our club actively takes part in are competitions, normally about 5 each year, against other UK Universities which is known as Dancesport. These competitions are friendly occasions and couples compete at their own respective level, so there are no worries about being swept off the flour by a couples who have danced for a long time! In 2008, and again in 2009, at the Nationals of the year known as IVDA (Inter-Varsity Dance Association), in which all the major Universities take part, Bath managed to come 5th (out of 23), hot on the heels of Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial! And if you thought that dancing wasn't a serious sport, it has been recognised by the Olympic Committee since 1997 and is soon to be included into the Olympic Games!
