Latin and Ballroom Competitions...
Dancesport is for some, a very competitive sport but for others it can be a wonderful way to participate in social dancing. Competition dancing is a form of Dancesport dancing that has evolved from social dancing. The International Olympic Committee has recognised Dancesport as a sport since 1997 and it is expected that eventually it will be included in the Olympic program (fingers crossed for London 2012!). Dancesport attracts people who love to dance, and who have the urge to show their skill and talent in direct competition with other couples on the dance floor. So if you are ready for something a little more glamorous and exciting, then it?s time to get competitive. Although competing is not for everyone, it is amazing fun and at Bath we have a fairly relaxed attitude towards competitions compared to some other universities. This means that we are known to be one of the friendliest and fun teams on the circuit. After all, there is no point doing something unless you enjoy it! However, this does not mean that we don't like to win! We had an extremely successful year last year and we hope to take the team to new highs this year. Getting more involved in the club and taking part in competitions is a rewarding experience. Because we meet regularly for practices and lessons, it?s not long before new friendships are formed. Above all competition days and practices are fun, and are only as serious as you make them. We aim to take part in up to 8 competitions across the UK throughout the year, taking as many people as we can to every competition. The Dancesport Team is unique in that it really doesn't matter how good you are, absolutely everyone can compete if they want to and we actively encourage everyone to do so. Even if you have never danced before, we welcome you to our team and can assure you that you would only ever be dancing against couples of a similar standard to your own - e.g. the Beginners will be dancing against other students who have started dancing this year too! So don't miss out, competing is usually everyone's favourite part of the club and rightly so! |
